Leading Brain-Based Movement Instructor Begins North American Workshop Tour for Brain Development and Sensory Integration
CHIMACUM, WASHINGTON—January 20, 2011--Neurodevelopmental movement specialist, Sonia Story, is launching a six-month Western U.S. and British Columbia tour, conducting training workshops in Rhythmic Movement Training™ for parents, occupational and physical therapists, special educators, caregivers, counselors and aides.
RMT was developed in Sweden by psychiatrist, Harald Blomberg, MD who became interested in movement to help with his own challenges from childhood polio. Blomberg saw beneficial results when he introduced the rhythmic movements to his psychiatric patients over 20 years ago. Today, RMT is most often used to assist those with emotional, social, behavioral and learning challenges; sensory processing disorders; ADD/ADHD; autism; anxiety; PTSD; developmental delay; and other issues related to imbalances in the neuro-sensory-motor system.
Rhythmic Movement Training™ focuses on movements that babies do in the womb and infancy. These "neurodevelopmental" movements are known for their ability to build neural networks in the brain. The infant movements are largely responsible for the high rates of brain growth seen in infancy.
"Many of the struggles children experience are the result of underdeveloped neural networks because of disruptions in the natural movements of infancy," said Story. "The exciting thing is that at any age we can literally rebuild the neural networks by doing these specific movements. All of this makes for a calmer, happier, healthier nervous system for children and adults."
Doing daily neurodevelopmental movement can improve mood, cognitive function, impulse control, playground safety, language development, reading skills and math skills. To view research summaries visit:

Other RMT workshops are scheduled for Vancouver, BC, Spokane, Wash., and San Francisco and Palo Alto, Calif. For a complete listing of Sonia Story's scheduled workshops, please visit http://www.moveplaythrive.com/range.listevents.
Story specializes in neurodevelopment movement for children and adults with challenges. She offers workshops, private sessions, presentations and in-service courses. She has also provided training for foster families for the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services.
Story studied with Harald Blomberg, M.D. and Moira Dempsey, founders of Rhythmic Movement Training International. She is certified to teach Rhythmic Movement training levels 1 & 2. Story is a student of Jon Bredal, MA and also has training in the Masgutova method for neuro-sensory-motor reflex integration, Brain Gym®, Balametrics, Original Play, developmental movement and non-violent communication.

I've taken classes with Sonia and have the utmost respect for her. Take the classes- you'll be glad you did.
I took a two-day class in Bainbridge Island as well. It was so good, I scheduled a special consultation with my daughter. Well worth it!
Sonia Story! What a great write up. My business partner here in LA just picked it up off the web and sent it to my because she thought I'd be interested. :-) The word is spreading. Nice work.
Warmly, Wendy
